Technical Shop Assistant

Job Description

Reports to department manager, and under the guidance of the Technical Support staff, the student incumbent works up to 35-hours per week (may include evenings and/or weekends), providing assistance with front-facing customer service for the tech shop and general maintenance/servicing of school equipment and lab spaces. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer-service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.

Key Duties

  • Assist in the clean-up and maintenance of the School labs 
  • Working at front counter of the Tech Shop 
  • Setting up electronic equipment in electronic, computer & electrical labs 
  • Basic equipment servicing 
  • Setting up facilities including, furniture, equipment and networking infrastructure 
  • Inventory verification and data entry

Skills required

  • Logical thinker/good troubleshooting skills 
  • Able to take direction and follow it to completion 
  • Comfortable with PC hardware 
  • Understanding of, and the ability to demonstrate, the principles of confidentiality 

        terms of employment

        • Rate of pay: $16.55 / hour (plus 6% vacation pay).
        • This position falls under the provisions of Student Employees in the Full-time Support Staff Collective Agreement and is subject to union dues.
        • The student must be currently enrolled at St. Lawrence College.
        • The student must be in good academic standing and sign a confidentiality statement.
