What is Sustainable Transportation?
Transportation accounts for a quarter of Canada’s carbon emissions. With more than 80 percent of Canadians now living in urban areas, fast reliable public transit and active and shared transportation options have never been better investments.
Sustainable transportation looks to reduce the environmental impact of the industry by commuting by public transit, biking, walking, trains, carpooling, and working remotely. These modes of transportation are also great accessibility options, while also potentially reducing the financial cost for the user.
local Transit
St. Lawrence College works with our local transit authorities to ensure our students have a affordable sustainable transportation option through the existing transit systems of our communities.
SLC student cards will be stickered with the Kingston Transit pass information, including the eligibility period. To ride the bus, you will be required to always show your stickered SLC student card. If you don’t have your student card yet, you can fill out a request form through the URSLC platform
Kingston
If you are a full-time student on the Kingston campus, make use of the student bus pass program that is included in your tuition! Unlimited rides, anytime, anywhere Kingston Transit covers if you’re enrolled as a student at SLC.

Brockville
Students can purchase a student pass for $150/semester to ride anywhere in Brockville! Find out more information here:

Students studying in Cornwall can purchase monthly student passes at a reduced rate of $55/month right at St. Lawrence College. Find out more about routes, fares, and more by clicking here.
Cycling
Bike Racks
Bike racks are located around each of our campuses and showers are available on campus if you need them. Check here our Sustainable Campus maps to locate bike racks and showers. Remember to bring a lock for your bike!
Secured Bike Storage
The Kingston Campus has a secure bike shelter/storage facility that is available for all staff and students. Find it in front of Kingston Campus student residences. Access athletics facilities for a free shower if you need!
Electric Vehicles
Natural Resources Canada Invests in Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at SLC
As part of SLC’s commitment to supporting sustainable and active transportation, the College installed 22 new electric vehicle charging connectors on its campuses, 10 in Kingston, and 6 each in Brockville and Cornwall. The stations will be available for SLC employees, students, and community members to use with regular on-campus parking fees in place and an additional $1.50 per hour fee while charging.
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced the investment of $110,000 to the College for the Level-2 EV chargers. Read the news release.
The charger interface is available in English, French and Spanish and the touch button interface works with gloves on!

Note that non-EV are not permitted to park in EV charging parking spots. Each spot has been identified with green line paint and appropriate signage. Regular parking fees will apply to EV parking spots.
Commuter Challenge
Every June and October St. Lawrence College participates in the National Commuter Challenge and Campus Commuter Challenges. This is a friendly competition between colleges, universities, and cities to see who can commute the most sustainably for one week.
