Update on SLC’s fall plans and back to school

A pen sits on top of a red notebook beside an open laptop.

Hello folks,

I hope you have enjoyed a rejuvenating summer so far. We are excited to be gearing up for the fall semester with Orientation for new students happening September 6 and our first day of classes on September 7. I am writing to provide you with details about the fall term.

SLC is open! That means classes and on-campus activities such as orientation, and services like the library, gyms, cafeterias, and study spaces are open for our students to use and get the full college experience, and we couldn’t be happier. Varsity athletics are back as well, and the Surge team schedules can be found here. Information for new students about Orientation, the student checklist, where and how to access support, and so much more can be found here. I encourage all students to check our website and slc.me for the details you’ll need to start your year off right. Employees are reminded to continue reading the weekly This is SLC news digest.

Regarding mask and vaccine requirements, in accordance with current public health guidelines, we will be a mask-optional college.  As we did throughout the pandemic, we will adjust if and as needed with direction from public health and our Ministry. Anyone who wishes to wear a mask is encouraged to do so, and we will continue to educate and raise awareness around public health protocols like cough etiquette and staying home if you are ill. We also strongly encourage folks to be vaccinated at the recommended frequency, but at this time SLC does not require proof of COVID-19 vaccination, except for programs where it is required for placements. Students with questions about vaccination requirements can connect with their program coordinator.

As we prepare for September and the start of the fall term, I know our teams are excited to once again feel the energy of a full campus and hear the buzz of busy halls. As a college rooted in our communities, SLC will continue working to be globally recognized while we deliver innovative learning opportunities and prepare career-ready graduates to become leaders in their fields.

Take care and have a fabulous day!

Glenn
