The SLC Award Programs Working Group aims to support the nomination process of key strategic award programs throughout the year. Earlier this spring, we announced the call for nominations for the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) Excellence Awards. We are pleased to share that two nominations have been put forward in the program.
In the North Star Award category, SLC alumna Gail Talasan-Manigsaca is nominated for her exceptional work supporting international students and newcomers in Kingston. Gail is the founder of Kingston NetworkBuddy, a networking and support group that breaks down barriers and brings international students together with the local community to build meaningful social relationships, and professional networks.
In the Elizabeth Paterson Award category, SLC students Jorge Veloz and Iovanna Rodriguez are nominated for their incredible efforts as volunteers with the Global Learning Centre. Iovanna and Jorge are instrumental in leading and supporting many initiatives offered through the GLC and in the community. Some examples of their contributions include supporting a tax workshop series for international students, various cultural celebrations and events, and language courses on campus, as well as the International Student Symposium hosted by the City of Kingston and KEYS.
Congratulations to this year’s CBIE Excellence Awards nominees! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to international education at SLC.
Thank you, too, to SLC community members for continuing to bring us your nomination recommendations.
If you have a recommendation for an upcoming award nomination, please share it with the working group by emailing Briana Gordanier.
