Local students from four school boards demonstrated their impressive technical and vocational skills during an exciting three-day Skills Competition hosted by SLC in late February 2025.

The week-long event, which took place from February 25-27, saw over 100 students from grades 7-12 competing in a diverse range of skill-based categories across both Cornwall and Kingston campuses.
On Tuesday, February 25th, the Cornwall campus hosted the "Skilz Competition" featuring students from the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO).

Participants tested their abilities in multiple disciplines, including:

-Computer coding
-Auto service
-Small engine repair
-Welding

The following day, Kingston's elementary competition brought together grade 7 and 8 students from the Limestone District School Board (LDSB) and Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB). These students engaged in events centered on robotics and cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies.

The event culminated on Thursday, February 27th, with the Secondary Skills Competition in Kingston. High school students demonstrated expertise in a wide array of professional fields, including:

-Computer Programming
-Plumbing
-Brick and Stone Masonry
-Carpentry
-Cabinet making
-Culinary Arts
-Hairstyling
-Photography
-Graphic Design

Top performers from these competitions are now set to advance to the qualifying Regional Competitions, with potential progression to the Skills Ontario provincial event in Toronto.
The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local school boards and the dedicated SLC team, including Amy Hamilton, Aidan Wornes, Christine Ferguson, Josee Poirier, Sara Ryder, and Barry Botham.
