Enhancing Student Experiences Beyond the Classroom

Submitted by Michael Richards, Student Leadership & Co-Curricular Learning Officer and Ross McMillan, Director, Student Success & Services

As part of our ongoing commitment to student success, a cross-college committee has been working to develop SLC’s inaugural college-wide Co-Curricular Record (CCR) program. Co-curricular recognition provides a framework for increasing access to student life activities and it directly supports St. Lawrence College’s student enrichment objectives. By recognizing and encouraging student engagement in opportunities beyond the classroom, the CCR will serve as a tool to help students make meaning of their experiences, reflect on learning outcomes, and articulate their professional skill sets.

The Co-Curricular Record is part of SLC’s student engagement platform, URSLC, linking students’ existing participation in activities and experiences outside of traditional academic pursuits. From volunteer service and leadership roles to professional workshops and community events, the CCR provides a holistic representation of development and offers a method of cataloguing each student’s unique college journey. Further, these aspects are linked together within a competency framework, allowing students to track their achievements and learning along a pathway.

Ready to learn more? We invite you to join us in one of two upcoming information sessions to learn about the first version of our Co-Curricular Record and the exciting value it will bring to our students. In these sessions, we will share the categories of recognition, explore our competency framework, discuss associated learning outcomes, and showcase preliminary examples in URSLC. We’re also interested in hearing how activities and experiences you organize, or are aware of, may be included in the CCR.

Please mark your calendars and register below for one of the following dates:

Tuesday, February 27 @ 12:00pm
Tuesday, March 5 @ 12:00pm

As a dedicated college community, the participation and feedback of our staff and faculty are instrumental in shaping the future of this project and its successful implementation for our students.

We look forward to seeing you!
