Future Project Managers Explore Power Generation Innovation at OPG Saunders Hydro Dam

On March 24, SLC Project Management students had the incredible opportunity to visit the OPG Saunders Hydro Dam Centre in Cornwall. OPG is investing more than $600 million to execute a multi-year, 16-unit refurbishment of the R.H. Saunders hydro station. This field trip was both inspiring and educational! 
 
We extend our gratitude to Matthew Mulvihill, the Communications Officer, and his dedicated team at the OPG Centre for their warm welcome and exceptional hospitality. The detailed tour of the RH Saunders Generating Station and the Visitor Centre located in Cornwall, Ontario was a remarkable experience that left our students in awe. Learning about the largest Ontario Power Generation facility, which provides electricity to a significant portion of Ontario, was truly enlightening. 
 
 The day was packed with insightful activities: 
 1) A presentation on OPG 101, RH Saunders GS, and Project Management Processes. 
 2) A guided tour of the RH Saunders Generating Station. 
 3) A visit to the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre, where we explored the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project and watched the inspiring film, From Dream to Reality. 
 
The students were captivated by the engineering marvels and the rich history showcased at the Visitor Centre. The interactive displays and the story of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project highlighted the immense contributions of this facility to Ontario's energy landscape and the communities it serves.
