The St. Lawrence Experience Record (SER) made a significant debut last semester, and we're excited to continue celebrating student engagement and achievement across our campus communities! SER provides students with a formal record of their out-of-classroom involvement, offering recognition in five key areas: Experiences, Badges, Volunteer Hours, Club Memberships, and Learning Pathways.
Highlights from the fall 2024 launch:
- Over 1,860 volunteer hours have been logged since September, highlighting the dedication and impact of our students
- 465 unique Experiences were recognized, ranging from campus roles such as Peer Mentors and Student Government Executives to Varsity Athletes, Club Leaders, and more!
- Collaboration with college departments has led to innovative opportunities to support student learning. For example, the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office (SRRO) introduced a badge to recognize students who completed specific training during Consent Awareness Week.
In addition to tracking and recognizing student engagement, reflection is a key component of the St. Lawrence Experience Record, helping students make connections between their experiences and personal growth. By developing reflective habits, students are encouraged to think critically about their involvement, identify the skills they have gained and how these apply to future career opportunities, and set new goals for continued development.
Students who have embraced this reflection opportunity shared thoughtful advice to inspire their peers and encourage their campus involvement. Here are some memorable quotes to share:
“Remember, every experience, no matter how small, can have a significant impact on your personal and professional growth. So, seize the moment, get involved, and make the most of your time at St. Lawrence College.”
“Take all the opportunities you have to learn and connect with people, be brave to show your skills and do not be scared if you fail. We all make mistakes, and it is part of the process!”
“Embrace every opportunity to engage with people from different backgrounds and actively participate in events or projects that push you out of your comfort zone. Be open to learning from others' experiences and take time to listen and understand diverse perspectives.”
Thank you to all students, staff, and departments who have contributed to this successful launch. Your involvement makes SER a powerful tool for recognizing engagement, developing skills, and preparing students for their future careers.
