Reducing Waste at SLC: Cano Report - Fall 2024

Thank you to SLC community members who participated in the Cano program in 2024! Small changes lead to significant impact when we work together. Use the free Cano when you visit any SLC cafeteria and contribute to reduced waste to landfills.

Thinking about your new year's resolutions? Go green at SLC – and don’t wait, start today! Your first coffee is free when you join Cano, and each time you use a Cano container you earn points to redeem on food and drinks. Check out the stats below and see how everyday choices make a difference over time.

Cano Program FAQs:  
How Can I Get Involved?    
1. Download the free Cano app on your iPhone or android (making an account gets your 100 free points, otherwise known as a free medium coffee or tea!) 
 
2. Scan the QR code on the Cano container at any SLC cafeteria or coffee kiosk. Then Scan the QR code at the cashier to complete the borrowing process. Click here to see a video of the borrowing process.  
  
3. When finished, simply return your cup or container to any Cano return box. Scan the QR code and drop your item inside. SLC will wash, sanitize, and reuse the product, saving it from landfill.  
    
How Do I Earn Points?    
When you return your Cano cup or container to one of our bins within 48 hours of borrowing, you will receive 10 points for every cup returned, and 20 points for a container. You will also receive 100 bonus points just for signing up -- enough to enjoy a free coffee!  
  
How Can I Redeem My Points?    
-100 points = free medium coffee or tea  
-250 points = free side  
-500 points = 25% discount on any entrée
