The School of Contemporary Teaching & Learning (SCTL) recently launched a new faculty development program for part-time/partial-load faculty known as the Teaching Effectiveness Program (TEP).

The Teaching Effectiveness Program is designed to support emerging educators discover their teaching practice by exploring the fundamentals of teaching. The program is delivered using a series of interactive modules that include both virtual and in-person sessions. Topics include authentic assessment, curriculum design, student motivation, inclusive teaching, and reflective practice. As part of the learning process, participants are also required to demonstrate their newfound knowledge by completing specific program milestone activities that will translate theory into practice as they progress across each module.

Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion from the college and will be celebrated at the end of each academic year with a tri-campus graduation ceremony. The TEP graduates will join others SCTL program graduates in celebration of their accomplishments as the school continues to diversify its faculty development program offerings.

The current TEP cohort includes 38 participants across various programs/campuses and is facilitated by members of the SCTL including Jessica Rich, Educational Developer, and André Léger, Associate Dean, SCTL.

Program highlights:

  • Reflective Practice – participants complete a series of teaching/learning activities with like-minded colleagues as they reflect on their teaching practice. Each activity is designed to emulate teaching tasks such as the creation of lesson plans, assignments/rubrics, student engagement strategies, role plays, and micro-teach.
  • Participant Eligibility – this program is designed for part-time/partial-load faculty but we also welcome support staff members that teach or would like to develop their teaching skills.
  • Flexible Delivery Schedule – program includes four weekday evening sessions (5-7pm) and four Saturday in-person sessions (9am-4pm) on Kingston Campus. More information on the next program offering will be made available online in the coming weeks.
  • Program Cost – the program is FREE to all SLC employees and participants will be reimbursed for inter-campus travel for the Saturday sessions. Meals will also be provided for all in-person sessions.
