On the morning of November 19, SLC hosted an Apprenticeship Resource Breakfast in partnership with Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF) and Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW).

Over 65 apprenticeship students attended this event and featured presentations from Jaclyn Quail, Apprenticeship Student Success Facilitator; Shauna Dick, Accessibility Advisor; and Stacy Gall, Wellness Counsellor, in addition to informative presentations by CCRW and CAF speakers. Shelley Aylesworth-Spink, Sr. Vice President, Student Success, welcomed the attendees and offered land acknowledgements, and Daniel Liao, Dean, Applied Science, Technology and Trades gave closing remarks.

The session provided apprentices and faculty members with information regarding the resources and supports available for apprentices who encounter disability-related barriers to employment, in-class training, as well as those who experience challenges in completing their Red Seal exam.

SLC is a member of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum and has worked in partnership to provide a variety of breakfasts and other information sessions to employers and apprentices across Ontario.  Through this partnership, many in the community have benefitted from learning more about the benefits of apprenticeship, the resources available to both apprentices and their employer sponsors, and the benefits of collaboration between everyone who plays a part in growing the skilled trades.

To this extent, over the past two years, SLC and CAF have travelled across Eastern Ontario to work with both urban and rural communities and have brought together students, employers, economic development corporations, staff and faculty, and employer support organizations to enhance collaboration and share knowledge, and plan to continue providing these opportunities moving forward.
