St. Lawrence College’s Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training program donated 30 complete bunker suit sets of pants, suspenders, and jackets to GlobalFire, a Canadian charity that strengthens the emergency response capacity of underfunded fire stations around the world through the collection and donation of firefighting equipment and the provision of free, professional training workshops.

“SLC has to ‘retire’ bunker suits because the industry standard is 10 years in service from the manufacturing date. In North America, these suits would not be suitable for use in structural firefighting and would be disposed of. In other countries, where some don’t even have bunker gear, these retired SLC bunker suits can meet a real community need and will be used by frontline firefighters,” explained Captain Shawn Ireland, Pre-Service Firefighter Technologist at SLC.

GlobalFire thanked SLC for their donation, noting, “These suits will help fire departments around the world who lack funding for the PPE they need while protecting their communities.”
