Mark Bergin, a musician, writer and photographic artist as well as professor and coordinator of SLC’s Music and Digital Media program will be in New York City on November 13 to celebrate the publication of his definitive biography of Broadway legend, Nat Horne.
The book launch will take place on November 13 at 7 pm at Lincoln Center during “A Night with Nat,” a celebration of the career of Nat Horne. The event is sponsored by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and will feature performances by numerous Broadway stars, choreographers and dancers, as well as Alvin Ailey dancers.
Now in his 94th year, Nat Horne is a renowned choreographer, dance icon, activist, and entertainment pioneer. In addition to being the first enlisted African American to dance for the U.S. Military Special Services and an original member of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, he was one of the founders of New York’s Theatre Row when he opened the Nat Horne Musical Theatre and School on West 42nd Street.
Mark spent several years and hundreds of hours with Nat Horne, exploring his extensive archives and then restoring the many images and photographs used in the book. The book is designed by Sophia Kendall, a graduate of the St. Lawrence College Graphic Design program, class of 2021.
