Hello folks,
The end of winter semester is within sight and like everyone, I’m looking forward to spring with optimism and hope that you are too. I’m sure you’re all looking forward to the end of term, and this note contains pertinent information if you’re continuing with us for the spring semester.
To align with the province’s approach, beginning May 1, we are ending campus COVID protocols. Specifically, this means that:
- Proof of vaccination upon entering SLC facilities is no longer required.
- Wearing a mask will become a personal choice, not mandatory if you are on campus. Note that should anyone wish to keep wearing a mask their decision will be respected, and SLC will continue making masks available, while supplies last, from campus security offices. Please also note that medical masks are still required in some labs and learning settings, and students will be informed of this requirement by their faculty.
- Submitting proof of a negative rapid antigen test for those with an approved exemption is no longer required.
While these changes can seem like all health protocols are ending, I would like to reiterate that if you are showing any symptoms of illness, you are asked to stay home. We know that the loosening of public health restrictions does not mean COVID is gone – we still have an obligation to be considerate and to continue protecting the health of our classmates and campus community. As such:
- Passive health screening remains in effect. Information will be posted, and the SLC SAFE app will continue to include the daily screening questions but you will not be required to show it upon entering.
- Note that the provincial self assessment can continue to guide decisions as to whether someone should self-isolate, or not.
While most programs for spring are back in person, an email was sent yesterday from the Registrar’s Office (subject line: Spring 2022 Program Delivery and Tuition Information) outlining what programs are continuing in alternate delivery for the spring term. On a final note, we expect the fall semester will be fully restored in terms of on-campus activity and face-to-face programming. Of course, we will be advised by public health guidelines should something change, and we will keep our communities informed, but it is safe to tell anyone who asks what our plan is for September, that we intend to be back to normal!
While the last couple of years have been tough on everybody, I want you to know how proud I am of our students for persevering and continuing with your studies. I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can in the hallways of SLC, and I wish you a smooth wrap-up to the current semester.
