St. Lawrence College, in partnership with the Stroke Network of South Eastern Ontario, is delivering training to front-line health care providers such as personal support workers, nurses, rehab assistants, and restorative care aids in caring for stroke survivors in long-term and community care.
The online training modules, entitled The Brain, Body & You, aim to enhance care and support techniques to promote safety, comfort, and dignity for stroke survivors and other client populations. The training is free and being delivered by subject matter experts from SLC throughout November.
As the program had to adapt to online delivery COVID-19, the program was able to double its enrolment.
The College has partnered with Queen’s University, with the support from a Fed Dev Ontario grant, to support Women Entrepreneurship in two endeavors called WE-CAN.
The first project, called YourWay: Turning Barriers into Business, supports new Canadian women who are interested in exploring a food based/home based business. St. Lawrence College created content that has focused learning on culinary and entrepreneurship skills that will be delivered by the College over 15 weeks. The participants will receive 75 hours of culinary training in the College kitchen labs as well as 55 hours of entrepreneurship training, and additional mentorship/support of businesswomen in our community.
The second project involves students from SPARK at SLC working directly with 10 women entrepreneurs, providing up to $5,000 of marketing communication services each, to assist with the launch or scaling of their businesses. The SPARK team will be providing a variety of services which began in October 2020 and will run to March 2021.
From website design to video production, and marketing strategy and execution to graphic design, the students will be working directly with the clients to identify their current marketing and communications challenges in order to provide them with customized solutions to grow their businesses. This opportunity has allowed the SPARK team to hire four SLC students part-time.
