Our Research Office helps solve business problems. We help you get from Research and Development to production faster and connect our resources with industry and community organizations to produce results that drive success. We support local businesses to take a product or service to a next level, create a competitive advantage and source funding opportunities for innovation, research, and development. If you are a private or public service agency, email our industry liaison, Ian Dick if you: have an idea for a product or process development; have a problem with a current business process; want to identify and capitalize on cost-saving opportunities, or want to test product design or evaluate process implementation.

The objective of this policy is to support Canadian research excellence by promoting sound data management and data stewardship practices. It applies to grant recipients and to institutions administering Tri-Agency funds. To meet the requirements of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management (RDM) Policy the College has developed a Research Data Management Strategy.

Research Ethics Board

To support the responsible conduct of research involving human participants at St. Lawrence College, the College established the St. Lawrence College Research Ethics Board (SLC-REB). The SLC-REB’s mandate is to review the ethical acceptability of all research proposals involving human participants conducted within St. Lawrence College’s jurisdiction and under its auspices in accordance with St. Lawrence College policies and the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans.

Research Involving Human Participants

All research involving human participants conducted within the jurisdiction or under the auspices of St. Lawrence College must comply with St. Lawrence College policies (including the Ethical Research Involving Humans and Research Integrity) and the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans. Researchers conducting research projects involving human participants are required to submit a completed SLC-REB Application Form (Researchers) and supporting documents to the Research Ethics Board. If you are in doubt as to whether your proposed research project requires SLC-REB approval to proceed, please contact the Research Ethics Board.

SLC-REB Full Board Reviews

Full board reviews are conducted on the 3rd Friday of every month (except in July and August). For more information contact: SLC-REB at reb@sl.on.ca.

External Researchers

All external researchers are required to obtain SLC-REB clearance before they can use college resources or begin recruiting any faculty, staff or students as participants at any of the St. Lawrence College campuses. External researchers will be required to submit the SLC-REB Application Form (Researchers). Additionally, researchers will be required to have appropriate College Department level approval for recruitment of participants or use of College resources to support the research project.

SLC-REB Application Instructions

If you are submitting

  • an Application Form to the SLC-REB to conduct new research.
  • Revised Application to the SLC-REB (after the board designated your previous submission “pending”)
  • Request for Renewal of an already approved project
  • Request for Amendment to an already approved project
  • Project Termination Form, indicating your research is complete

submit the forms and supporting documents via the SLC-REB webform.

Other application types (i.e. student course-based research, applications to the research ethics committee psychology) should be submitted via email to reb@sl.on.ca.

Multi-Site Research Projects

Multi-site research projects involving multiple colleges in Ontario must first submit an Ontario Community College Multi-Site Research Ethics Board Application to the Heads of Applied Research (HAR) Expert Panel REB for a preliminary review.

Once you have obtained the HAR Expert Panel’s Letter of Recommendation, you can then submit the Ontario Community College Multi-Site Research Ethics Board Application form to the SLC-REB along with your supporting documents. Applications received with the Expert Panel’s Letter of Recommendation will receive a delegated review by the SLC-REB.
