Artist Bio
Dirk Mietzker grew up in Ottawa and showed an interest in art and design from an early age, which led him to study industrial design at Carleton University. He creates figurative works in charcoal as part of the artist group Go Figure, and acrylic paintings influenced by his career as a designer.
His work has been presented in both local and international art galleries. He is a regular at art festivals in Ottawa, and was deemed a jury favourite for his art piece “Suspended Between Space & Time.” His artwork was exhibited in a solo show in 2017. Dirk’s artwork is part of many private collections across Canada and the United States as well as in Australia and Sweden.
Dirk lives and works in his Eastern Ontario studio, finding inspiration from his walks along the Rideau River. He is represented by Studio 87 in Perth, Ontario.
Artist Statement
My background in industrial design allows me to appreciate and draw inspiration from what we create and build. An important aspect of any design project is the human being. My interest in figurative work comes from trying to understand the human form and capture the interaction of shapes and light with a piece of charcoal.
