Artist Bio
“I’ve heard it is important to paint what you feel passionate about. For me, painting from life has been my inspiration, whether studying a pear, a face, or a particular gesture. Over the past twenty years, watercolour has been my preferred medium. I am always surprised by the effect of mingling water with pigment. The results are both predicable and unpredictable, and it’s the latter that fascinates me and provides the challenge of new possibilities.“ Born in Brooklyn, New York, Leslie spent her first sixteen years in New York City. The daughter of an artist, she was surrounded by art books and paintings at home, and able to view exhibits at the many art museums of New York. She attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan where she specialized in music. After graduating, she studied music and English at the University of Buffalo. She married, and moved to an organic farm in Canada, near Ottawa, where she renewed her interest in drawing and painting. In September 2004 Leslie had her first solo show, Nude Awakenings, at Amanda’s Slip Restaurant, Kemptville. She is a Fellow of the Ottawa Watercolour Society, a member, past and present, of several art guilds and life-drawing groups, and a founding member of Go Figure Art Group. She has a Fine Arts certificate from St. Lawrence College, Ontario.
