St. Lawrence College (SLC) is proud to announce the launch of its Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanics apprenticeship program that officially opened its doors for in-class learning earlier this month. SLC will celebrate the program launch with a special event on Monday, August 19. In attendance will be apprenticeship students as well as local employers whose efforts have contributed to the introduction of this program.
The new HVAC Lab has been outfitted with modern equipment and tools thanks to generous gifts-in-kind from Wolseley Canada Inc. and Reliance Home Comfort. The program is offered in a hybrid model, consisting of 12 weeks of part-time online study followed by a few weeks of intensive in-class training. This innovative approach provides students with the flexibility to balance their studies with other commitments while ensuring they receive hands-on experience in a modern and industry-standard learning environment.
“SLC is committed to providing excellent training for our students in a real-world setting,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of SLC. “The new HVAC Lab and hybrid delivery represents a significant step forward in our efforts to equip future HVAC professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in this essential industry. We have already seen tremendous support and need from local employers for this and look forward to training apprentices to fill labour market needs.”
SLC will also host Support Ontario’s Youth “Tools in the Trades” full day bootcamp on August 19, 2024. This event aims to introduce individuals to career opportunities in the HVAC and Brick and Stone masonry industries. Interested participants can find more information and register here.
