International health insurance is included in your program fees
You must have health insurance to cover the cost of medical care while you are studying with us. To assist you, St. Lawrence College has negotiated the purchase of medical insurance for international students to obtain the most comprehensive coverage at the best cost.
To be covered by guard.me insurance from the 1st of the month that you begin your first semester, you must:
- Pay your student fees by the due date.
If you arrive earlier than the 1st of that month, you may need to purchase ‘early arrival’ insurance directly with guard.me.
You can easily access your guard.me insurance using the iCent app. The iCent app allows you to easily display your insurance information when necessary (e.g. getting a COVID-19 test, visiting a doctor, picking up a prescription).

Your emergency healthcare plan
Here are the steps you need to follow to use your insurance plan properly:
Go to your SLC email and find an email from Guard.me International Insurance. The subject line should be "Health Insurance Card".
Once you have found the email with your insurance card, print the card and keep it with you. We recommend you put the card in your wallet.
You will also receive a temporary password, which will allow you to access the guard.me/slc portal.
If you are not feeling good, and it is not a life-threatening situation (breathing problems, broken bones, blurry vision, severe stomach pain, bleeding that you can’t stop, etc.) you should visit a clinic. guard.me can help you find recommended clinics.
Appointments are required to see a physician and/or nurse. Telemedicine appointments are available to Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall St. Lawrence College students.
MobileDOCTOR by guard.me (International Students Only)
Through mobileDOCTOR you have access to online doctor consultations on Maple, with your visit billed directly to guard.me. Online doctor visits, anytime, anywhere. If you have questions, please contact us at claims@guard.me.
When to call the guard.me Claims team:
Call the number on the back of your guard.me health card:
- Before being admitted to the hospital
- Before going for any expensive diagnostic testing (e.g. MRI or CT scans)
You must bring:
- Your guard.me health card
- Photo identification (student ID card, passport, etc.)
- Money to pay for the visit (if the clinic is not "Direct Billing")
You will have to submit a claim every time you have paid for a consult and/or a prescribed medication.
You need to keep your receipts in a safe place. We recommend you take pictures of your receipts.
