Job Title: Student Library Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY
Reports to Department Manager, and under the guidance of the designate, the student incumbent works up to 30 hours per week providing assistance in greeting and guiding customers and performing limited administrative related tasks to gain work experience while supporting the operations of the department. The successful incumbent demonstrates strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication (oral and written) skills, combined with an ability to work under pressure, and problem-solve while working independently.
The incumbent will help library users access library materials and resources and assist library staff with other projects as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports staffing of department front desk area during scheduled work times, providing a high level of customer service handling in-person inquiries including helping customers locate needed materials and referring customers to others for appropriate assistance.
- Assist in dealing with occasional disrespectful users through escalating conflict to department manager / designate.
- Performs regular library tasks including sorting, organizing, and re-shelving library materials
- Assistance with library projects as assigned
- On occasion may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, such as special functions (i.e., orientation, open house, awards dinners, etc.)
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Time management, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively work independently with instruction, or collaboratively as part of a team.
- General knowledge of standard computer applications (MS word, Excel, Teams, & Email).
- High degree of integrity for maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Physical/Work Environment Essential Requirements:
The successful incumbent must have the ability to report to the work location.
Salary & Terms
- Start Rate: $17.20/hour, (plus 6% in lieu of vacation)
- Hours per week: 30.00

Terms of Employment:
- Must be returning to Full-Time studies in the Fall 2025 semester.
- Must be in good academic standing for full duration of employment.
