Important details regarding our winter semester
Our commitment was to provide an update to our SLC community of students and employees by the end of January as to how the rest of our winter semester would unfold – this is the first of what will be several updates shared with you, as changes to provincial restrictions begin rolling out in a few weeks.
Health Care Administration students receive specialized training
Neigellene Sanchez and Fabian Celaya, Health Care Administration post-graduate certificate students, obtained $3500 in funding from the SLC Student Association which enabled 70 of their fellow students in Canada and around the world to participate in trauma responsive care training in partnership with the Kingston Community Health Centre.
English-language learners created global connections with local community
A group of international students enrolled in the Integrated English Online Program (IOEP) participated in an interview assignment to engage with local businesses and community members while sharing their professional and cultural knowledge. Each student was paired with a local business owner, based on their interests and chosen fields of future employment. Students interviewed a wide variety of people, including Vicki Keith, multiple world-record holder and paralympic swimming coach; Jacob Murray, co-owner and marketing director of Topsy Farms Ltd; Jennifer Baker, pharmacist and pharmacy owner; Cassandra Rendell, owner and operator of The Lodge Coffeehouse, and many other inspiring individuals.
Important information about masks on campus
Today marks the return to class for most winter semester programs, and I want to welcome everyone for a new term. I also want to share information and reminders about mask requirements, as anyone coming to campus must adhere to proper mask protocols.
Tourism Pursuit app a big hit in South Dundas
After its launch last June, the South Dundas Tourism Pursuit app, created in partnership with SLC’s Game Programming students and the Municipality of South Dundas, has to date, been downloaded 758 times, according to James Dupuis, professor in the Game Programming program.
