National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women 2022
Every December 6th, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The day was established by the Parliament of Canada to mark the anniversary of the 1989 murders of 14 women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal, who were killed because of their sex. 
Season's Greetings this December
Within the month of December, there are various celebrations, festivals, religious events, national days and many more. A few examples are Festivus, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Independence Days for Kenya, Qatar, Bahrain, Libya, Mongolia, Finland, Tanzania, Portugal, and many more. These are just a few significant dates people may celebrate or take time off to take care of themselves, friends, or family.
SLC Projects Showcased at CICan on the Hill
SLC is proud of having had two projects included in the CICan on the Hill student showcase on Parliament Hill in Ottawa Wednesday, November 30. The event is an opportunity to engage with parliamentarians and senior federal officials to share perspectives on how colleges and institutes address skills and labour shortages, improve innovation and productivity, and support the transition to a net zero economy.
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
Katie Sills, Manager, Student Rights and Responsibilities Office, and Carmen Law, Director, Belonging, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion share information and resources related to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, which begins the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
Environmental Technician Students Host Local Girl Guides for an Educational Evening
On November 15, twelve first-year Environmental Technician students re-configured their St. Lawrence College classroom for a hands-on, educational evening designed for local Girl Guides ages 8-11. Student volunteers from the program were tasked with developing 15 minute educational stations around the themes of science, nature, and the environment.
