Global Impact: Students Bring Entrepreneurial Solutions to Irish Charity’s Challenges
During their visit to Ireland (October 20 - November 2, 2024) students in the Entrepreneurial Thinking in a Global Context course had a unique opportunity to work with Stephen Ryan-Doyle, the founder and CEO of the Irish charitable organization; 'Let's Fund It'.     The students met with Mr. Ryan-Doyle in the boardroom of our partner institution, the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and heard a presentation about his organization and some of the challenges that have emerged due to the rapid interest and growth in the services his charity provides. 
Surge to Success: A Strong Start for First-Year Students 
This fall, our post-orientation programming, Surge to Success, welcomed first-year students with an engaging eight-week initiative. Designed to help students successfully transition to college, the program provided opportunities to build resourcefulness, connect with the SLC community, and immerse themselves in campus life. 
Supply Chain in Action: Students Tour Giant Tiger's High-Tech Distribution Hub
Supply Chain Management students were warmly welcomed to attend a tour of the highly innovation Giant Tiger Distribution Centre in Johnstown, ON last week. After signing in and receiving our visitor badges, we were led to a nice meeting room where Tara Migneault, Head of Supply Chain Integration, gave us an overview of Giant Tiger, the facility, and some safety protocols before being split into smaller groups to head out on the floor for the tour. 
SLC Hosts Apprentices for Learning and Networking 
On the morning of November 19, SLC hosted an Apprenticeship Resource Breakfast in partnership with Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF) and Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW). Over 65 apprenticeship students attended this event and featured presentations from Jaclyn Quail, Apprenticeship Student Success Facilitator; Shauna Dick, Accessibility Advisor; and Stacy Gall, Wellness Counsellor, in addition to informative presentations by CCRW and CAF speakers. Shelley Aylesworth-Spink, Sr. Vice President, Student Success, welcomed the attendees and offered land acknowledgements, and Daniel Liao, Dean, Applied Science, Technology and Trades gave closing remarks. 
SLC Research Capstone Partners with GreenReach Farms for Sustainable Agriculture
The research capstone programs at SLC bring real-world challenges into the classroom, offering students hands-on experiences that address current industry needs. This fall, a unique collaboration with GreenReach Farms, an urban AgriTech start-up in Gananoque, is allowing SLC students to explore sustainable agriculture in a tangible way.
